Annual dinner celebrates anniversaries of three companies that have come a long way

More than 700 local and foreign guests packed the ballroom of Royale Chulan Hotel in Kuala Lumpur for the Oriental Sports Club’s annual dinner themed Golden Oriental Night 2017.

The event also celebrated Oriental Holdings Bhd’s 54th anniversary as well as the anniversaries of its subsidiaries Boon Siew Sdn Bhd (60th), Kah Motor (57th) and Teck See Plastics (40th).

In attendance were foreign corporate guests from Japan, Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore.

Corporate figures who attended the dinner were each given a golden feng shui tree as a token of appreciation and to usher in a prosperous year ahead.

In his speech, Oriental Holdings Bhd and Boon Siew Group of Companies group managing director Datuk Robert Wong Lum Kong said that despite the challenging business environment, the group was still going strong, surviving the financial travails and competitive market.

“We are very blessed to have this annual event which gives us the opportunity to take time off from our busy schedules to gather in camaraderie and share how we have come through the storm,” he said.

He noted that the founder Tan Sri Loh Boon Siew, a self-made billionaire, had risen from poverty through hard work and foresight.

“Did Loh Boon Siew know 60 years ago, when he brought the Honda brand into Malaysia, that the brand would today be the nation’s number two in total industry volume? We are certain what is happening today is from the foundation he laid.

“With sheer grit and determination, his team continued his legacy and made the Honda and Kah Motor brands number one in the non-national segment for 11 consecutive years from 1990 to 2000,” said Wong.

He said valued partners continued its metamorphosis to stay ahead technologically and sustainable, thus remain the mainstay of the Oriental Group’s precision engineering division.

He also highlighted that the Oriental Group continued to be strategically diversified in property development, plantation, hotels, healthcare, motorcycle assembly plant and investment holdings.

“We organised this event to acknowledge team members who had worked hard alongside us throughout the year with high commitment.

“We will always remember and value that without the dealers, suppliers, vendors, staff and the media, Oriental Holdings’ businesses will not be where it is today, a solid brand and distinction in their respective industries,” he added.

The event also gave recognition to loyal employees who had been with the company between 10 and 45 years.

Meanwhile, Kah Motor car parts controller, Yuthes Ramachandran, 22, was overwhelmed with happiness when his raffle ticket was picked as the winner of the grand prize Honda Wave S110 motorcycle at the annual dinner.
