Seagate releases 12TB hard drives for desktop and NAS devices

Seagate’s newly released hard drives are so massive you might struggle to fill them up.

Seagate’s BarraCuda Pro has 12TB of capacity

The company claims it has the fastest, highest capacity and most reliable hard drive for desktop computing, available in the market.

The BarraCuda Pro, according to Seagate, offers double the space of its closest competitor, and its high speed is ideal for data intensive activities, such as transferring large files and photo editing.

Despite its large capacity, the drive is also fast with a 7,200RPM (revolutions per minute) spin speed. It supports a data transfer rate of up to 250MBps.

At the same time, two NAS (network-attached storage) grade models – IronWolf and IronWolf Pro were also introduced, both with 12TB of storage as well.

Both models, according to Seagate are ideal for file-sharing, remote access and backup for small medium businesses, enterprises and creative professionals.

The IronWolf and IronWolf Pro support the transfer rate of up to 210MBps and 250MBps respectively.

“Offering the highest capacity, reliability, performance and system scalability in the industry, Seagate’s 12TB IronWolf and IronWolf Pro HDDs empower customers to centralise their data onto NAS systems to ensure round-the-clock access for multiple users,” according to a statement by the company.

All three models are available in the 3.5in form factor which is often used for desktop and NAS.

According to Seagate, the hard drives are now shipping to customers worldwide but local availability has yet to be confirmed at the time of writing.
