GEORGE TOWN: From cholesterol-busting solutions to cardio workouts on ice to a chance to try out a rock-climbing wall to a step-by-step guide on using a ride-hailing app, the Star FitForLife Penang 2017 promises to be an enlightening experience.

Early birds are in for a treat because door gifts are waiting for the first 500 registered visitors daily during the three-day fair, which begins today.

The goodie bags are filled with product samples from the exhibitors, including the Nestlé Omega Plus Low Fat Milk which contains plant sterols scientifically proven to keep bad cholesterol out of your bloodstream.

Forty exhibitors are at Star FitForLife Penang 2017, the nation’s largest health and wellness expo created by Star Media Group six years ago and previously called The Star Health Fair.

The event partner is Great Eastern Life while Nestlé Omega Plus is the official wellness sponsor. Their mega booths offer experiential games and activities that will open the minds of visitors to fresh new concepts on maintaining fitness and health.

Among the exhibitors to keep an eye out for is Sunlighten Malaysia. Its booth will show off a one-seater infrared sauna cabin. About the size of a wardrobe, it is compact enough to fit in the corner of an apartment.

Visitors will get to sit in the cabin, feel its sturdiness and buy a special package – RM38 per session – to try out its cleansing effects at Sunlighten’s Gurney Plaza outlet.

Ride-hailing service provider Mula Car International will be at the fair to give visitors a demonstration on how to download and use its mobile app.

“Our guidance is specially tailored for those unfamiliar with ride-hailing services, especially senior citizens and those who are less tech-savvy.

“Once they know how to hail a ride, they will know how stress-free it can be to go anywhere they want without having to drive through jams or deal with parking problems,” said its managing director Goh Kok Peow.

Also, an RM5 ride voucher will be given out for every new download at the fair.

Penangites are expected to reap the benefits of bargain prices on the latest range of nutritional and wellness products, as exhibitors vie for more market share through the event.

Wellness Concept is conducting health screenings as well as promoting health products and programmes at its double booth.

The company’s Lean 90 protein powder is made with French peas which have alkaline properties that make it easier to digest,” said Wellness Group of Companies managing director Vivian Tan.

“Lean 90 is a good source of supplementary protein for those who are concerned about products made with genetically modified soybean,” she added.

Also look out for a plethora of other health supplements, food and beverage and hearing aids while several NGOs in attendance are promoting a healthy lifestyle and care for the disabled.

Star FitForLife Penang 2017, with its theme “Get Fit. Live Great!”, is to inspire Malaysians to lead a healthier lifestyle by being physically and mentally fit.

The fair, at the SPICE Arena, goes on until Sunday. It is open from 10am to 7pm daily and admission is free.
